New Balance Nationals, North Carolina A&T, Greensboro, NC

Amos Gerber (Lake Hamilton) raced his way into the Top 10 Arkansas All-Time Best for 3200m as he finished 3rd in the Emerging Elite division at New Balance Nationals on 6/18. Gerber ran 9:24.86 for 2 miles which is a 9:21.50 converted to 3200m.  Gerber was also 11th in the 1 mile (on 6/18) at 4:22.45 which converts to 4:20.85 for 1600m and moves him to the Top 3 in the 2010 Best Performance Lists. Both of Gerber's marks are new school reocrds at Lake Hamilton. Teammate Richard Williams posted a PR in the Emerging Elite division 800m (6/19) at 1:56.18 good enough for 8th place and a #2 spot on the 2010 BPs. Noah Findlay (Little Rock Catholic) was 10th on 6/17 in the Freshman 1 mile at 4:31.07 (4:29.50 for 1600m).  For complete meet results, go to:

Combined Events, Cabot

Fans of track and field have to enjoy the Combined Events where sprinters, jumpers, middle distance runners and cross over weights athletes line up and show off a wide array of skills in an exhausting two day competition. The results can ebb and flow as the events are tackled and the different skills come to bear. In the Girls Heptathlon, Jessica Otto (Mansfield, 3A) won only the 100mh in 14.97, a mark good enough to make the Arkansas All-Time Best List. The 953 points earned got Otto off to s good start but she fell to 2nd after the LJ and Joy McQuay (Hamburg, 4A) climbed to the top with a solid 810 by jumping 16' 11". Then Otto, in spite of a weak SP throw edged back into the lead with 2,028 points then added 916 more in the 200m to finish Day 1 at 2,944 to McQuay's score of 2,892. On Day 2, Otto never gave up the lead with solid marks in  the HJ and 800m final event to fnsih with 5,067 and a 231 point win over Macey Rodely (Jonesboro, 6A) who won the SP at 34' 0" for 712 points and seemed do better with each event. In the Boys Decathlon, Ethan Sandusky (Bentonville, 7A) battled Stephen Soerens (Fayetteville, 7A) in what became a 7A-West competition, Soerens scored 1,000+ in both the LJ and TJ but Sandusky was close behind in the LJ with 970, ran a solid 400m for 915 and an exceptional 1,495 iin the PV. Neither scored well in the SP and DT and Sandusky was in 8th more than 840 points behind Soerens the leader with two events remaning. Then Sandusky outscored Soerens by 1,125 in the PV and held on in the 1600m to take the overall win with 7,272 points and margin of 214.   Event winners  with their marks and points were:

Meet of Champions, Lake Hamilton

The annual festival featuring the best of each state meet did exactly what is hoped for and that is produce new meet and overall records. In the Girls show, Senior Grace Heymsfield (Elkins, 3A) pushed the G1600m record down to a brilliant 4:57.98 from her mark of 4:59.51 set in 2009. Heymsfield out dueled Springdale Har-Ber (7A) soph Valerie Reina who ran a terrific 5:04.30 and then came back to win a close G3200m race by 11:11.36-11:14.72 over soph Emily Myers of Cabot (7A). The Boys were not to be out done as Andrew Irwin (Mt. Ida, 2A) soared to 17' 0" in the BPV to best the mark set in 2009 at 16' 8.75" by Sam Ewing (Lake Hamilton). Clinton Whitted (Rivercrest, 3A) hopped, skipped and jumped an impressive 48' 0" to set the new mark in the BTJ barely eclipsing the 47' 11" mark of Donovan Loring (LR Parkview) set in 2006. There were plenty of other top marks also. Mannasha Bell (Ft Smith Northside, 7A) won both the G100m (12.24) and G200m (25.16) as the meets only other double event winner. Soph Monisa Poole (Nashville, 4A) sped to a 57.08-57.82 win over FR Takara Coleman (Nettleton, 5A) in the G400m in a race that saw seven runners under 60. Bentonville Girls (7A) once again won the 4 x800m and once again dipped under 10 minutes with a 9:55 clocking. JR Ariel Voskamp (Cabot, 7A) won the GPV in a nice 12' 6" while SO Sydney Conley (Fayetteville, 7A) leaped 19' 1.75" to win the GLJ. JR Alex Chaffin (LR Catholic,7A) led seven runners under 2 flat in the B800m with a 1:55.37 time. Bryant (7A) won the B 4 x100m relay in a swift 42.01, JR  J. R. Hale (Dover, 4A) sailed 6' 9" for the BHJ win and SR Tyler Lingo (Nashville, 4A) hurled the platter 174' 0" to win the BDT.  The hard core track fans had to love the B1600m and B3200 featuring the state's best distance runners. Even with a new overall record and two good races in the Girls events, the Boys did not disappoint. JR Gabe Gonzalez (Springdale Har-Ber, 7A) edged across the line in 4:19.14 just .48 seconds ahead of SR Michael Allen (Russellville, 7A) while SO Will Aenchbacher (Bentonville, 7A) won the B3200m in 9:21.29 leading eight runners under 10 minutes. In an ArkansasTrackStats.net unofficial "scoring" of the MOC, the 7A-West Girls tallied 165.5 points just ahead of Class 5A at 159.5 and Combined Classes 1-4 at 159.  In the Boys meet, Combined Classes 1-4 won the honors at 178 just ahead of Class 5A at 173 and comfortably ahead of 7A-Central at 117. We scored the events just as any meet using a 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 points and grouping athletes by Class 1-3 Combined, 5A, 6A-East, 6A-South, 7A-Central and 7A-West.
 
7A State Outdoor Meet, John McDonnell Field, Fayetteville

The Fayetteville Girls and the Ft Smith Southside Boys just had too much for the rest of 7A. The Lady Bulldogs scored in every event while winning four to easily win the 16-team meet by 147-93-73 over Bentonville and Cabot. Meanwhile, the Rebels won 8 events and piled on plenty more to  win the 16-team meet by 124-90-76 over Fayetteville and Conway. Each winner outscored the bottom eight teams combined in their meet. Sydney Conley (Fayetteville) scored 32 individual points in the Girls meet as a triple winner in the G100m (11.87), GLJ (19' 0.5") and GTJ (36' 11.50").  Conley's marks put her on the Arkansas All-Time List in the Top 10 for the 100m, the Top 5 for the LJ and the Top 20 for the TJ.  Other double winners in the Girls meet were Valerie Reina (Springdale Har-Ber) in the 1600m (5:10) and 3200m (11:39), both marks making the ATB Lists, and Ariel Voskamp (Cabot) in the 100mh (15.14 prelims) and PV (12' 5"), both for the ATB List with the vault in the Top 20. Neal Braddy (FS Southside) dominated the sprints with wins in the 100m, 200m and 400m then added a win in the LJ.  Braddy nipped Courtney Haskell (Bentonville) in the 100m by 10.57-10.58, earning both a Top 20 spot on the ATB List. Other notable marks included were Mannasha Bell FS Northside) in the G200m  (24.80, ATB Top 20); Brittany Briswalter (Cabot) in the GDT (129' 11", ATB Top 30); Kirstie Hesseltine (Springdale Har-Ber) in the GHJ (5' 8", ATB Top 20); Neal Braddy (FS Southside) in the 200m (21.57 prelims, ATB List); Will Aenchbacher (Bentonville) in the B3200m (9:37); Jamarcus Harmon (Conway) and Tyler Trudo (Bentonville) went 1-2 in the BTJ at 45' 3.25" and 45' 3" both good for the ATB List; and Kaleb Horlick (Fayetteville) in the BPV (15' 6", ATB List). 6A State Outdoor Meet, Lake Hamilton

Lake Hamilton posted an impressive 61 distance points, including 32 in the 3200m to come from 3rd place, to win by 96-86-86 over Jonesboro and LR Parkview in the 14-team Boys meet. Jonesboro used 34 SP/DT points to build a lead but could not come up with enough to hold on as Parkview took 2nd in the final relay to tie for runner-up. Texarkana benefited from 67 spints points and a solid field events effort but won the 15-team Girls meet with a surprising 26 distance points to win by 129-110-84 over Lake Hamilton and LR Parkview. Lake Hamilton scored a strong 51 distance points and a meet leading 44 field event points but fell short in the sprints. Christassia Walter (Texarkana) scored 31 individual points in the Girls meet with wins in the 300mh (47.11 prelims) and GTJ (37' 2.25"). Kalebra Duke (Texarkana)  tallied 29 individual points with three 2nds (100m/200m/TJ) and a 4th in the 400m. In the Boys meet, Kelton Ray (LR Hall) scored 23 individual points while winning the 400m (49.26) by only .04 seconds  overr Aaron White (Texarkana). Daniel Rodely (Jonesboro) won the weights double for 20 points. The top show of the meet was the duel between Chris Marchman (Sheridan) and Amos Gerber (Lake Hamilton) as Marchman won the 1600m by .15 seconds in 4:22.15 and Gerber came back to run 9:33.36 in the 3200m to win by 1.38 seconds over MarchmanGerber opened the meet with a leg on the winning 4 x 800m relay team that ran 8:13.  Some of the other notable perfromances included Irene Jadic in the G1600m (El Dorado/5:23), Harris Kelsie in the G3200m (Mt Home/11:55), Sam Bass in the B100m (Watson Chapel/10.93), Richard Williams in the B800m (Lake Hamilton/1:58)and Sam Ewing in the BPV (/Lake Hamilton/15' 0"). 5A State Outdoor Meet, Paragould
New 5/22/2010
Camden Fairview Girls and Magnolia Boys easily won the 5A State. Fairview won the 28-team Girls meet by 94-71.5-62-61 over Batesville, Crossett and Magnolia after having built a +16 lead with 50 field event points then topped it off with a solid sprints perfromance. Batesville piled on 52 distance points to lay the foundation for runner-up. The Magnolia Boys took the win in the 23-team meet by 124-91.5-88-83 over Crossett, Vilonia and Alma with a balanced scoring attack fortressed by 57 sprint points. Crossett had to hold on with the 200m win while Vilonia scored in each of the last six events.  Orlando Robinson (Crossett) was a four-time winner for 40 individual points with wins in the 100m, 200m , 400m and LJ. Robinson tied up with Montez Taylor (Magnolia) in the 400m for a fast one-lapper in 49.77-49.97. Taylor also took 2nd in the 100m and 200m to tally 26 individual points. In the B300mh four runners slipped under 40 flat as Andrew Lockett (Forrest City) won in 38.69. Trey Wyatt (Vilonia) sailed 13' 4" to win the BPV, Jesse Pennington (Alma) heaved the shot 54' 5' and Adrain Thomas (Magnolia) hurled the disc a very fine 175' 6" which puts him in the Top 20 on the Arkansas All-Time Best List. Takara Coleman (Nettleton) tallied 28 individual points with a double win in the 200m/400m and 2nd in the 100m including a swift 58.46 quarter. Jasmine Marks (Camden Faiview) scored 23 including the GLJ win at 17' 3" and 2nd in the GTJ. Kayria Norful (Camden Fairview) won the weights double with a strong marks in the GSP (38' 9.75") and GDT (132' 8"). Bailey Sisson (Vilonia) edged out Natalie Meinzer (Batesville) in the 1600m by 5:18-5:20.  Hot Springs pulled off a 1-2 finish in the G800m as Kelsey Bean (2:22) won over Annisa McMichaels (2:24). 4A State Outdoor Meet, Pocahontas

Nashville scrapped their way to two team wins behind strong field events as the Girls scored 47 and the Boys 55 in the field, including 31 in the SP and DT. In the 31-team Girls meet, Nashville easily won by 109-59-52.50-50 over Gravette, Heber Springs and DeQueen while in the 32-team Boys meet the Scrappers cruised to a 81-62-62-61 win over Heber Springs, Shiloh Christian and DeQueen. In the race for runner-up, Shiloh was well back at only 29 points with three events to go. The Saints added 27 in the 3200m with a 1-2-4-5 finish and 3rd in the final relay to complete a remarkable comeback.  Meanwhile, DeQueen held a narrow 49-46 lead for 2nd over Heber and scored 12 in the 200m and relay but came up one short as Heber scored 16 to close out.  Monisha Poole (Nashville) out up 42 individual points scoring in 6 events with a win in the G400m where she nipped Khadijah Smith (Pine Bluff Dollarway) by 58.98-59.49.  Elizabeth Krug (Heber Springs) scored 35.5 individual points with a win in the GLJ at a very fine leap of 17' 3". Jasmine Dickerson (Arkadelphia) was a double winner in the 100m (12.55) and 200m (25.85); in the Boys meet double winners were Wesleigh Foster (Clarksville) in the 100m (11.00) and 200m (22.00) and Andrew Evans (Shiloh Christian) in the 1600m (4:28) and 3200m (10:15).  Some of the other notable winning marks were Martha Robinson (GHJ, 5' 6"), Alex Pevtsova (Valley View, 11' 2"), J. R. Hale (Dover, BHJ, 6' 8"), Andrew Hill (Heber Springs, BPV, 14' 0"), Ashdone Bailey (Arkadelphia, BSP, 55' 4.5") and Tyler  Lingo (Nashville, BDT, 178' 6"). In the B400m, Sean Bounds (Osceola) out dueled Chance Tanner (Waldron) by 49.58-49.85.  Lingo's DT mark is good enough for Top 20 perfromance on the Arkansas All-Time Best List. 2A State Outdoor Meet, Mineral Springs

With four events remaining in the 32-team Girls meet, four teams were only 7 points apart with Dermott holding a slight lead. Murfreesboro scored in each of the last events including 11 in the 800m and the 4 x400m relay win to surge to a 75-60-50-47 win over Des Arc, Smackover and Dermott. Murfreesboro and runner-up Dermott were tied at 18 after the field events but Murfreesboro took advantage of a 27-18 lead in the distance events to make the difference. In the 30-team Boys meet, Magazine jumped out to a commanding 19 point lead over Augusta but could not stem the tide as Augusta won all the relays and amassed 63 sprints points. The deciding factor was a 1-2 finish in the 400m coming on the heels of outscoring Magazine 13-1 in the 100m. Double winners included Emily Carroll (Melbourne) in the 1600m/3200m and Diedra Hawkins (Dermott) in the 100mh and 300mh. Hawkins also took 2nd in the HJ for a total of 28 individual points. Tachara Thomas (Smackover) tallied 24 points in the 100m (1st), 200m (2nd) and LJ (2nd). Shun Ingram (Palestine-Wheatley)  scored 25 in the Boys meet scoring in the 100m (1st), 200m (2nd), 100mh (3rd) and 400m (8th). Andrew Irwin (Mt Ida) won the BPV in a fine 14' 0" and the Augusta Boys raced home in the 4x 400m in a nice 3:38. Miranda Smith (Eureka Springs) won the GDT at 104' 5" while Ashley Henson (Johnson County Westside) jumped 34' 0.25" to win the GTJ. Go here for complete meets results courtesy of AAA.
 
1A State Outdoor Meet, Genoa Central

Omaha trailed by 10 with three events remaning and put on a flurry of 25 points to pull even with Trinity Christian for a 96-96 tie as Amorel took 3rd with 82.5 points in the 24-team Girls meet. TC led 81-71 until Omaha took a 86-83 lead after the 200m and then retook the lead with 13 points in the 3200m for a 93-86 edge with only the relay remaining. Needing only a 4th place relay finish to secure the championship, TC could only take 6th as Omaha raced to the relay win and a share of the state meet crown. Trinity Christian ran away with the 26-team Boys meet by 160-58-50.5 over Guy-Perkins and Crowley's Ridge. TC piled up points in 15 of 17 events including 54 distance points. Haleigh Ledbetter (Caddo Hills) set the only new 1A state meet record with a 10' 7" effort in the GPV good for a spot on the Arkansas All-Time Best List. Ragen Thompson (Nevada County) won the GSP with a solid 36' 8.5" and Leah Holland (Western Grove) won the G1600m  in a nice 5:44. Greg Millhorn (Trinity Christian) and Denell Henderson (Guy-Perkins) each sailed to Arkansas All-Time Best List marks in the BTJ with leaps of 43' 5" and 43' 3", respectively.

3A State Outdoor Meet, Prescott

Rivercrest Boys rode a 54-32 lead in the field events over host Prescott and held onto to a double digit lead in the running events. Rivercrest won the meet by 116-104.5-65 over Prescott and Magnet Cove in the 32-team meet. In the 29-team Girls meet, Mansfield scored in 15 of 17 events including 7 event wins to cruise to a 137.5-96.5-56-56 win over Prescott, Cedarville and Magnet Cove. The meet produced a shocking 13 new 3A State Meet records and two other near misses. Teammates Clara Ellingburg (LJ, 100m, 200m) and Jessica Otto (HJ, 100mh, 300mh) of Mansfield each won three events while Grace Heymsfield (Elkins) was a double distance winner in the 1600m (5:07) and 3200m (11:52). Lorenzo Thomas (Rivercrest) won the SP (48' 11"0 and the DT (151' 0.5") while teammate Clinton Whitted set two 3A records with wins in the TJ (46' 0") and 200m (22.37) on top of a 2nd place in the 100m. Otto set new 3A State meet records in the HJ (5' 4"), 100mh (15.34) and 300mh (46.38). Ellingburg's mark in the 200m (26.04) is a new 3A record. Others 3A records were: Heymsfeld in the G1600m, Christy Cutshall (Genoa Central) in the GDT (113' 8"); Wesley Kilbourn (Green Forest) in the BHJ (6' 5"); Andrew Corter (Magnet Cove) in the B100m (10.88); Earl Byrd (Rivercrest) in the B110mh (14.88); Mansfield in the G4 x100m (50.94); and Prescott in the B4x 400m (3:3135). Lake Hamilton Invite, Pearcy

Always count on Lake Hamilton to put on a meet with some top performances and this year's Invitational was no exception. More on that later. In team competition, Camden Fairview used balanced scoring and 43 sprint points to win easily by 103-87-77-73.5 over Bryant, LR Central and Vilonia in the 19-team Girls meet. The Lady Cardinals held a 17-point lead with five events to go and held their own while Bryant came from 3rd with scoring in each event, including 15 in the 300m hurdles, to take 2nd. Vilonia was a distant 4th and put on a flurry to nearly catch Central as they won the 4 x400m and scored 14 in the 800m. Meanwhile, in the 22-team Boys meet, Nashville piled up 56 field event points with a 1-2-7 shot put finish and a 1-4 in the DT. The Scrappers added 15 relay points and 27 sprint points for the win. The team battle was really for 2nd as Bryant held a slight lead with five events to go but could not hold off a surging Vilonia and  Lake Hamilton. The Wolves scored 13 points in the 3200m and set up a relay fight with Vilonia but the Eagles took the relay 2nd and the Wolves brought the stick home in 3rd and just short of 2nd place overall. Some of the top marks posted included: Sam Ewing (Lake Hamilton) at 17' .25" in the PV with Andrew Irwin (Mount Ida) in 2nd at 16' 6"; Tyler Lingo (Nashville, SP, 175' 0"); Jacari Tollette (Hot Springs, HJ, 6' 6"); Alex Chaffin (LR Catholic, 800m, 1:57.50); Brittany Briswaltter (Cabot, GDT, 116' 4"); Ariel Voskamp (Cabot) edged out Kirby Newcomb (Lake Hamilton) in the GPV by 11' 4" to 11' 0"; and Kelsey Bean (Lake Hamilton, G800m, 2:22.67). The Boys put on a distance show with three at 4:24 in the 1600m and three under 9:45 in the 3200m. Lake Hamilkton took a close 4 x800m win in 8:16 while Vilonia won the Girls version by a sliver in 10:17.  Go here for complete meet results and more top performances.

Senior Hornet Relays, Bryant HS

Bryant defended the home track twice in close meets as the Lady Hornets edged Cabot and Conway by 108-107-71 in the 17-team meet while  the Boys won by 114-109.5-55 over the Cats and Panthers in the 18-team boys meet. Bryant Girls took a 14 point lead into the last three running events but had to out run Cabot in the 4x400m relay for the win. Cabot outscored Bryant 22-7 in the 200m and 3200m to take a slim 101-100 lead but could not hold off the Lady Hornets who took 2nd in the relay as Cabot was 3rd. While Cabot won 5 events to Bryant's 3, the Lady Hornets used a 31-16 margin in the distance events  and a 46-42 sprints margin to offset Cabot's 18 point field events advantage. In the Boys meet, Conway led 106.5-93 with three events to go and could only manage one point in each event while the Hornets used a 2nd in the 200m and a 1st in the relay for the come from behind win. Bryant used a 63-35 sprints margin to offset Conway's 21 point field events edge. The featured race of he day was the 3200m run in each meet as three girls were under 12 minutes led by Emily Myers (Cabot) at 11:48 and four boys were under 10 with Amos Gerber (Lake Hamilton) coming home first in a very nice 9:35. Kayla Nehus (Mount St Mary's) won the 1600m in 5:19 and Brittany Briswater (Cabot)  won the discus at 107' 9". Alex Chaffin (LR Catholic) sped to a 1:57.61 win in the 800m while teammate Noah Findlay ran 4:28 to win the 1600m. Zach Riley (Benton) was a double winner in the 100m (11.06) and 200m (22.69) while Jazz Allen (Conway) was the boys high point winner at 30.25 with a win in the 110mh (14.96). Pointer Relays, Van Buren HS

Ft. Smith Southside Boys held on for a narrow 144-140.50-132 win in the 10-team boys meet over Alma and Russellville while Mansfield (Class 3A) ran away with the 10-team girls meet by 128-88-88 over host Van Buren and Rogers Heritage.  Southside held a slight four point lead over Van Buren with four running events remaining while Russellville lingered about 30 points behind.  The Rebels and Pointers matched each other while the Cyclones finished with a flurry to close the gap to only 12. In the girls meet, Mansfield tallied 66 field event points and added 38 in the sprints to seal the win and added 23 distance points for good measure. The race in the girls meet was for 2nd and with four running events to go there were still five teams in the hunt with FS Northside at 64 leading the trailing pack. Heritage sped into 2nd after the 800m at 73 with Southside jumping to 71.5 for 3rd. Northside came back with 16 in the 200m to tally 81 vs Heritage's 77. Van Buren did some damage in the 3200m to take a 83-82-81 lead for 2nd over Heritage and Northside. Heritage then edged by Van Buren in the 4 x 400m to earn a tie. Mannasha Bell (FS Northside scored 40 individual points with wins in the 100m (12.77), 200m (26.44), LJ (17' 1/4") and TJ (35' 3"). Jessica Otto (Mansfield) was triple winner in the hurdles and HJ, while teammate Clara Ellingburg scored 24 scored 30. Greg Phillips (Southside) talleid 26 with wins in the 110mh and two 2nds in the 300mh and TJ. Teammate Neal Braddy was a double winner in the 100m (11.38) and 200m (23.03). Dani David (Heritage) won the G1600m in a nice 5:30.93 while Alex Cahffin (LR Catholic) sped to the boys win in 4:30.49 over Michael Allen (Russelllville) at 4:33. The Bentonville Girls piled on 83 points to run away to a 105-79-54 win in the 23-team meet over Fayetteville and Cabot.  The Lady Panthers tallied 32 field event points and held a small lead over Fayetteville and Lake Hamilton each at 29. Then the Lady Tigers got going with two relay wins and individual wins in the 400m and 800m. In the 24-team Boys meet, Fayetteville used  balanced scoring with 41 field event and 45 track points to cruise to a 86-49-46 win over 7A-West rivals FS Southside and Bentonville. Southside used 18 points in the 60m dash to catch Bentonville, then took the runner-up spot with a 3rd in the 4x400m as Bentonville did not finish the final event. Sam Ewing (Lake Hamilton) won the PV with a superb vault of 17' 1" to set a new meet record and the best high school mark of the 2010 season nationally. Other meet records were set by Kameron Beeler (FS Southside) in the 60m at 7.05, by Morgan Seelinger (Bryant) in the Girls 60m hurdles at 9.34, by Sydney Conley (Fayetteville) in tthe 60m at 7.69 and by Bentonville with a 4:09.26 in the Girls 4x400m relay. Double winners were led by Gabriel Gonzalez (Springdale) with a tough 800m/3200m double winning the 800m in 1:59.57-1:59.77 over Alex Chaffin (LR Catholic) then coming back quickly to easily win the 3200m in 9:36.81 as the Top 6 were all under 10 minutes. Valerie Reina turned the distance double in the girls meet with a close win over Maggie Montoya (Rogers) by 5:13.32 to 5:14.92 and then led eight runners in the 3200m under 12 minutes with a fine 11:30.79 clocking. Others to double were Stephen Soerens (Fayetteville) who won the HJ and then the TJ with a nice 45' 10.5" leap, Sydney Conley (Fayetteville) in the LJ with a strong jump of 17' 11.75' before setting the 60m mark and Brittany Reagan (Bentonville) with the TJ (36' 1.75") and 400m (59.14) wins. Bentonville relay teams won the 4x400m in record time then dueled with Benton County rival Rogers to win the 4x800m by 9:54.12 to 9:58.07.  Go here for complete meet results courtesy of ATCA and Heber Springs High School.

The Mansfield Girls jumped and ran to a 128-78-69 win over Heber Springs and Gravette in the 27-team meet. Meanwhile, the Nashville Boys used a solid lead in the field events to propel the Scrappers to a 83.5-72-60 win in the 23-team meet over Heber Springs and DeQueen.  Nashville led after the field events with 45 and used a 3rd in the 200m and 2nd in the 4x400 relay to seal the win. Heber Springs left the field events ahead of DeQueen but fell behind 45-44 after the 400m and had to use 18 points in the 800m and 3200m to secure the runner-up spot. New meet records were set by Jessica  Otto (Mansfield) in the 60m hurdles at 9.68, by Grace Heymsfield (Elkins) in the 1600m at 5:20.29 and by Andrew Corter (Magnet Cove) in the 60m hurdle at 7.08. Otto was among the double event winners with the 60mh win along with 1st in the HJ (5' 2") as teammate Clara Ellingburg won the 60m (8.30) and 400m (65.58). Shelby Newell (Gravette) won both the LJ (16' 9.5") and TJ (34' 0").   In the Boys meet, double winners were Matt McClelland (DeQueen) in the 60mh and 400m (51.53), by Andrew Evans (Shiloh Christian) in the 1600m (4:37.65) and 3200m (10:05.06) and by Andrew Corter (Magnet Cove) in the 60m and 200m (23.47). Bentonville, Fayetteville and Rogers Girls led a 1-2-3 7A-West sweep of the Classic as the Lady Tigers won by 104.5-64.5-63 with Bryant a close 4th with 60 in the 2-team meet. Fayetteville Boys topped FS Southside and Bryant by 96-76-67 in the 25-team Boys meet. Stephen Soerens (Fayetteville) won an impressive jump double wwith a 6' 7" HJ win and a 45' 8" TJ victory. Sam Ewing (Lake Hamilton) posted an excellent 16' 0" in teh Boys PV while Gabriel Gonzalez (Spriingdale) blistered the track to win the 800m in 1:58.57. In the Girls meet, Valerie Reina (Springdale Har-Ber) won the 1600m in5:18.32 and Elenna Sanz (Bentonville) ran 11:38.04 to win the 3200m. Final XC Best Performances Lists

The final BPs for 2009 are now posted. This turned out to be a better than average season overall compared to 2004 and later. The Boys spread over the Top 10 runners was a tight 28.93 seconds, the best since we have kept records as well as a best for the Top 50 spread at 1:22. The Girls achieved a 2nd in the Top 10 average time at 18:55. The BP List contain 92 Girls and 66 Boys.  Go here for the BP List.

In addition, we find the Top 10 combined programs and the top program in each classification by adding the scores of the Boys and the Girls team for each school at the State Meet. State Meets never fail to produce some surprises and 2009 was no exception.  There were some meets pretty much as the Coaches Poll would predict but then others where the #1 team in the Week 8 poll was not on the award stand much less winning the meet. Thanks to Siloam Springs Coach Kevin Meythaler and his keyboard class, we have an unofficial Combined Classification Top 10 actual meet results. The Combined results adds all races together, orders by times of each runner, then scores as if only one meet was run. Be watching for the complete Combined Meet results soon. 15th Arkansas/Oklahoma All Star Meet, Agri Park, Fayetteville, 11/14/09

The Arkansas Girls put on a show with 6 of the Top 10 and raced to a 60-131 win over the Sooner State ladies.  Arkansas averaged an excellent 19:44 over 5k for their Top 9 while Oklahoma averaged a respectable 20:08. Soph Valerie Reina (Springdale Har-Ber) and Fr Maggie Montoya (Rogers) took 1-2 in 19:13 and 19:19 while Regan Ward (Beggs, OK) was 3rd in 19:28. In the Boys meet, Oklahoma turned the tables on the Natural Staters with a narrow 85-90 win with the 9th runner providing the winning edge. Oklahoma averaged 16:40 just ahead of Arkansas at 16:41. Sr Chris Marchman (Sheridan) took the win for Arkansas at 16:16 while Toby Bothwell (Westmoore, OK) and Brock Hime (Woodlands, OK) were 2nd and 3rd at 16:19 and 16:27. 6A-South Conference, Oaklawn Park, Hot Springs, 10/27/09

Running over familiar ground at Oaklawn Park, Lake Hamilton raced to two conference championships with a win by a perfect 15-57 over Benton in the 3-team girls meet and by 24-37 over Sheridan in the 3-team boys. Lindsey Mills led the Lady Wolves with the win at 21:36 as Irene Jadic (El Dorado) was 2nd in 22:26 and  Carolyn Tran (Lake Hamilton) was 3rd at 22:39.  Chris Marchman (Sheridan), who leads all boys in the state this season,  took the boys win at 16:47 ahead of Amos Gerber (Lake Hamilton) at 17:31 and teammate Caleb Parker at 17:43. 6A-East Conference, Mt Home, 10/27/09

Mountain Home took advantage of the home turf with a perfect score 15-59 win Searcy in the 3-team Senior Girls and a 26-38 win over Marion in the 4-team Senior Boys meet.  Both teams left themselves open for State with a 4:48 spread in the girls race and 3:27 in the boys. Sam Mohler (Mt Home) won the girls race with a nice 20:17 as teammate's Kelsey Harris and Hannah Osmon were 2nd in 22:02 and 3rd at 23:20. Wil Norris led the Bombers in the boys with the win at 17:42 followed by Jacob Schultz (Marion) in 2nd at 18:01. The State Meet will be run on this cousre on 11/7/09. 7A-West Conference, Rogers High School Course, 10/27/09

Through the slop, across the creek, over the waggles and into the stadium for a lap around the track went the harriers on a cool fall afternoon on the course at the Rogers campus. The course was extra "ripe" when the Conference meets were run after four races of the Mountie Classic and the NWA Junior High Championships run earlier that afternoon. While the times were slowed in the muck, the competition was intense. Bentonville Girls were up to their old tricks with a 36-60-64 win in the 8-team Senior Girls over host Rogers and hometown Rogers Heritage. The Lady Tigers posted a 1:06 spread while Heritage tallied 1:32 and the Lady Mounties a 1:52.  Rogers Boys put on their best team performance of the year to defend the home turf with a tight 47 second spread to hold off Bentonville (1:08)  and Fayetteville (1:33) by 48-56-69 in the 7-team Senior Boys. In the Senior Girls, FR Maggie Montoya (Rogers) led through the 1st mile in 5:51 but Valerie Reina (Springdale Har-Ber) edged into the lead at 2 Mile with a 12:08 ( 6:17 mile) and pulled away for an easy 15 second win at 19:05. Reina sped up and finished in 6:57 for the last 1800m, or about 6:11 per mile. Elenna Sanz (Bentonville) slipped into 2nd at 19:20 while Montoya hung on for 3rd at 19:33. Dani David (Heritage) also finished under 20 with a 19:57 for 4th and teammater Hope Burrell was 5th at 20:02. Austin Simpkins (Fayetteville) led the Boys race with a 1st mile at 5:04 leading a small a pack with Gabebriel Gonzalez (Springdale), Will Aenchbacher (Bentonville), Jeremiah Fleeman (Rogers) and Scott Compton (Bentonville) in tow.  The pack shrunk to Simpkins, Gonzalez and Aenchbacher at 2 Miles. Gonzalez surged with 900m to go and ended up with the win at 16:31 with Simpkins close behind at 16:35. Aenchbacher was 3rd at 16:35 and Fleeman and Compton were next at 17:00 and 17:01. Mountie Classic, Rogers High School Course, 10/27/09

When Rogers hosts the 7A West Conference meet, the Mountie Classic run on the same day hosts a 6A and Under meet and the NWA Junior High Championships.  The course featured creek crossing with ankle deep water and a series of "waggles" that are up and down hills over a 40m stretch designed to  change the tempo. Grace Heymsfield (Elkins) cruised through the first mile in 5:55 and crossed 2 Miles in 12:27 (6:32) on her way to an easy win in 19:42 (last 1800m in 7:15). Olivia Campbell (Harrison) was 2nd in a solid 20:51. Christian Heymsfield (Elkins) led the boys pack at the 1st mile in 5:20 then broke it open in the 2nd mile with a 5:40 (11:00) for the win in 17:24 (last 1800m in 6:24). Kenny Rangel (Green Forest) was 2nd in 17:54. Elkins won the Senior Girls as they were the only team with five finishers; Siloam Springs (1:04 spread) won the Senior Boys by 51-55-69 over Green Forest (2:30) and Elkins (3;17). Siloam also took home the win in the 18-team NWA Juniors with a win over Springdale Central, Bentonville Black and Fayettevillle Ramay by 104-114-117-149. Central won the 13-team NWA Junior Boys by 44-55-94-135 over Bentonville Black, Rogers and Springdale Southwest. Rachel Hardgrave (Fayetteville Woodland, 6:04 1st mile) won the Junior Girls in 12:05 over the 2 mile course with Brittany Burson (Ramay) at 12:14. Jacob Shiohira (Bentonville Black, 5:27 1st mile) took the boys win in 10:25 and Dino Andrade (Central) was 2nd at 10:49. Go here for complete meet results.
 
7A-Central Conference, Rolling Hills Golf Course, Cabot, 10/26/09

Bryant cruised to a 42-71-74 win in the the 7-team 7A-Central Senior Girls over Van Buren and Conway.  The Lady Hornets tallied a nice 1:03 spread while their Top 5 finished between 6th and11th.  Conway Boys easily won by 43-66-71 in the 8-team Boys meet over Russellville and Cabot. The Wampus Cats also posted a 1:03 spread and the Cyclones and Cabot each were less than 1:30.  Erika Setzler (Conway) took overall honors ina fast 18:43 and Ashley Myers (Van Buren) and Kayla Nehus (Mount St. Mary's) were each under 20 at  19:23 and 19:49, respectively. Jerry Melnyk (Little Rock Central ) blasted through an impressive 15:58 for the Boys win with Brendon Tucker (Cabot) in 2nd at 16:19, Matthew Friant (Conway) in 3rd at 16:33 and Alex Chaffin (LR Catholic) close behind at 16:34. Magazine runners won both Senior races as Katy Carter posted a nice 20:41 clocking and Travis Williams crossed in 17:32. Hackett won the Senior Girls by 25-30 over Magazine but the Rattlers took the Senior Boys by 27-28 over Eureka Springs. Magazine won the 4-team Junior Girls over Eureka Springs by 27-45 while Eureka Springs turned the tables in the Junior Boys with a 18-44 win. DeQueen won 3 of the 4 races with a perfect 15 win in the Senior Girls by 15-48 over Prescott. DeQueen also won the 6-team Senior Boys by 30-38-67 over Caddo Hills and Prescott.  Alexis Hankins (DeQueen) won the Senior Girls in 23:14 while Logan Rosson (Hot Springs) won the Snior Boys in 18:48.  DeQueen Junior Boys won the 5-team meet narrowly by 28-29 over Hot Springs Lakeside as Hayden Thornton (Bismarck) won in 11:44. Katy Carter (Magazine) won the Senior Girls at 21:03 while Travis Williams (Magazine) took the Senior Boys in 17:18. Ozarks Girls won the meet with the 6th runner tiebreaker over Greenwood as the 5-runner score tied at 28.  Greenwood Boys won 36-44 in the 5-team Senior Boys.  Magazine won the 4-team Junior Girls by 27-48 over Mansfield led by Brittany Bryan at 9:47 over the 1.5 mile course. Clarksville won the 7-team Junior Boys easily by 27-83 over Greenwood behind the running of race winner Ervin Clokey at 8:29. Go here for complete meet results.

Erika Setzler (Conway) led a  dozen Arkansas Girls under 20 minutes in the Senior Girls Invite with a fine 3rd place finish in a swift 18:23. Grace Heymsfield (Elkins) was 5th just a step behind in 18:24 while Valerie Reina (Springdale Har-Ber) was 6th in 18:27 just edging freshman Maggie Montoya (Rogers) in 7th at 18:28.  Bentonville led all Arkansas teams in the 41-team Senior Invite in 6th place with a 2:40 spread with Rogers close behind in 7th (2:42). Other Arkansas teams were Fayetteville in 9th (3:43), Bryant (12th, 2:04) and Rogers Heritage (15th, 2:51).
 
In the 50-team Senior Boys Invite, Chris Marchman (Sheridan) led the home state runners in 4th at a very nice 15:55 as Austin Simpkins (Fayetteville) was 5th at 16:02.  Michael Allen (Russellville) took 8th in 16:10 and Brendon Tucker (Cabot) was 10th in 16:11. Fayetteville led in the team competition in 5th with a 1:35 spread while Bentonville was 8th (1:11), Conway in 11th (1:28) and Russellville in 16th (1:48). Rogers took 10th with a terrific 28 second spread.

The 19-team Senior Girls Open saw Rogers JV take 3rd with a 49 second spread and Russellville JV in 4th (2:23). FR Beth Smith (Russellville) led all Arkansas Girls in 3rd at a very nice 20:41. Bentonville Black Boys was 7th with an excellent 34 second in the 33-team Senior Boys Open with Rogers JV in 10th (50 seconds). Christian Heymsfield (Elkins) was 7th in 17:07 and Kenny Rangel (Green Forest) was 12th in 17:24.

Lake Hamilton won the 25-team Junior Girls 5K with a 2:32 spread as Siloam Springs was 2nd (1:35) and Cabot was 3rd (1:24). Kyandra Chandler (Nettleton) took individual honors in an excellent 19:33 with Grace Bodrun (Heber Springs) taking 2nd in a nice 20:32. In the 34-team Junior Boys 5K, Bryant won with a 1:04 spread while Lake Hamilton was 3rd (1:59). Springdale Central took 2nd with a fine 40 second spread. Daniel Evans (Shiloh Christian) took 1st in a nice 17:19 with Jacob Shiohira (Bentonville Black) close behind in 2nd at 17:19.

Bomber XC Invite, Mt Home, 10/13/09

Maggie Montoya (Rogers) and Sam Mohler (Mt Home) slogged throught the muddy course together for most of the way before Montoya pulled away with an impressive time of 19:50 as Mohler crossed at 20:08. Rogers won the 9-team Senior Girls meet over Batesville and Mt Home by 38-49-84. Rogers posted an average of 21:53 and a worrisome spread of 3:16 while Batesville tunred in 22:20/2:11 and Mt Home finished at 23:10/5:05. Rogers Boys won the 14-team Senior Boys meet over West Plains (MO) "B" and Heber Springs by 23-79-93. The Mounties averaged only 18:24 in the slop but achieved an excellent spread of only 38 seconds. Host Mt Home took the 7-team Junior Girls by 56-70-89 over Heber Springs and Batesville and Heber won the 7-team Boys over Batesville Southside and Eureka Springs by 22-56-101. Lake Hamilton XC Invite, Oaklawn Park Infield, Hot Springs, 10/10/09

Bryant easily won the 12-team Senior Girls meet by 44-84-93 over Russellville and host Lake Hamilton. The Lady Hornets averaged 21:35 with a spread of 1:37 while the Lady Cyclones came across at 22:42/3:11 and the Lady Wolves at 23:04 with a very fine 49 second spread. Erika Setzler (Conway) won the individual honors in 19:19.  Conway took the 20-team Senior Boys over Little Rock Catholic and Russellviile by 56-78-81. The Wampus Cats averaged only 17:32 but posted a credible 1:09 spread. Catholic finished in 17:51 with an exceptional spread of 38 seconds and Russellville came home in 17:46/1:51.  Chris Marchman (Sheridan) won the race in 16:25 with Jerry Melnyk (LR Central) in 2nd at 16:37.  Russellville won the 16-team Junior Girls by 53-62 over Lake Hamilton and Cabot took the 19-team Junior Boys by 64-84 over Bryant. Ashley Myers (Van Buren) out dueled Olivia Campbell (Harrison) with both posting nice 5K times as Myres tallied 19:43 and Campbell crossed at 19:50. Rogers "B" Girls (average 22:51/ spread 1:01) nipped host Van Buren (22:31/4:41) by 38-40 in the 5-team Senior Girls and Siloam Springs (18:17/:23) edged out Rogers "B" (18:34/:46) by 34-51 in the 7-team Senior Boys. Kalen Hosier (Van Buren) won the race in 17:46. In Junior action, Siloam Springs swept both races as the Girls won by 38-68-81 over Van Buren Butterfield and Bentonville Black and  the Boys won by 67-81-105 over Trinity and Rogers. Week 5 XC Coaches Poll

Trinity Christian held onto both polls in 12A by a single vote over Acorn in Girls and two votes in Boys over Caddo Hills who moved from 4th to 2nd. Elkins stayed on top in 3A with Marshall breaking into the Top 5 in Boys.  Mountain Home slipped back ahead of Lake Hamilton in 6A Girls while the Wolves held onto the Boys top spot. Berryville and DeQueen are in a tie atop 4A Girls and Heber Springs hung onto the Boys lead. Batesville Girls continued as favorites in 5A Girls as did Siloam Springs in Boys. Bentonville Girls hold a one vote lead over Rogers while the Mounties barely stayed on top in 7A Boys. Bentonville, Rogers and Batesville are 1-2-3 in Combined Girls while Bentonville, Rogers and Conway lead the Boys combined. Go here for the compete poll results.

Prescott posted a perfect 15 score over Pine Bluff's 53 in the Senior Girls while Magnolia slipped by Hamburg 47-54 in the 4-team Snior Boys. Prescott Junior Girls routed Monticello by 18-51 as Monticello won the Junior Boys over Hamburg by 17-45. Irene Jadic (El Dorado) posted the top time at 22 flat for 5k in the Senior Girls race. 36th Annual Cyclone XC Invite, Old Post Park, Russellville, 10/03/09

Bryant Girls (avg 21:22, spread = 1:04) cruised to  a 45-62-93 win in the 11-team meet over Little Rock Christian (21:45/3:12) and Lake Hamilton (22:36/2:59).  Emily Myers (Cabot) ran a very nice 19:32 to win the 5k race with Ashley Myers (Van Buren) close behind at 19:42 followed by Randi Ferguson (LR Christian) at 19:44. Lake Hamilton Boys (17:14/2:09) edged to a team win in the 19-team Boys meet over Russellville (17:23/1:57), Cabot (17:36/2:01)  and LR Catholic (17:47/1:04)  by 64-71-93-93. Cabot won the tiebreaker over Catholic as their 6th runner was 3.09 seconds ahead of the Rockets' 6th. Amos Gerber (Lake Hamilton) posted a superb 16:08 just ahead of Yaroslav Melnyk (LR Central) at 16:10.56 and Michael Allen (Russellville) at 16:10.84. Brandon Tucker (Cabot) ws 4th at 16:12. In the Junior Girls 2 Mile meet, Russellville won by 49-97-111 over Cabot and LR Christian in the 17-team meet while Bryant won the 20-team Junior Boys by 86-100-103 over Cabot and Russellville. Over 940 runners from 78 teams faced off in the Elkins XC Invite but only Shiloh Chrisitan could take home more than one team championship. The Saints edged out Greenwood and Siloam Springs in the 4-5A Boys by 52-60-61 with a 1-2-3 finish led by Andrew Evans with a nice 16:28. The Ladies won the 4-5A Junior Girls. Other team results were:

Nearly 1000 runners competed at the Panther XC Invite sponsored by Simmons Foods. Erika Setzler (Conway) squared off against Valerie Reina (Springdale Har-Ber) and came away with a win by 19:08-19:46. Maddie Morton (Cedarville) won the small school division in 22:40. Huntsville Girls (25:30 avg/2:54 spread) won the 4-team small school met by 37-38 over Cedarville (25:31/6:21). Bentonville Girls (21:04/1:20) won the 9-team large school meet by 39-56-101 over Fayetteville (21:58/4:04) and Springdale Har-Ber (23:20/5:19). Gabe Gonzalez (Springdale) posted the fastest time in the Boys races  at 16:47 to win the large school meet with Andrew Evans (16:56) and Lucas Peiser (17:00) both of Shiloh Christian close behind in the small school meet. Shiloh (4:10 spread) easily won the 8-team small school meet by 37-67-89 over Pea Ridge and Hunstville; Conway Boys traveled to the Northwest and took home a win in the 11-team large school meet by 44-58-66 over Fayetteville and Bentonville. Daniel Evans (Shiloh Christian) won the Boys 2 Mile in 11:09. Berryville Girls won the 8-team small school meet over Shiloh and Pea Ridge by 55-60-77; Siloam Springs Girls won by 84-92-107 over Van Buren Butterfield and Springdale Central.  Meanwhile, Springdale Central Boys won by 50-93-121 in the 16-team small school 2 Mile meet and Shiloh took the 7-team small school division by 38-64-66 over Pea Ridge and Eureka Springs meet. While Rogers "B" ran at the Panther XC Invte, the "A" team took on a tough field of Missouri school in Springfield without normal front runner Jeremiah Fleeman participating.  FR Maggie Montoya (Rogers) won the Girls race in 18:57 for a new course record. Springfield Kickapoo won the Girls meet by 53-56-81 over Shawnee Mission, KS and Rogers (20:42 avg/3:05). The Rogers Boys led by Adam Gibby (17:08) in 11th, also landed in 3rd behind Rock Bridge and Springfield Kickapoo as the scores came in at 36-61-91. The Mounties averaged 17:25 and a terrifc 27 seconds spread.
 
Week 3 XC Coaches Poll

The Week 3 Poll is now posted and the teams at the top of the Top 10 Overall are pretty close as Bentonville, Rogers and  Rogers Heritage challenge for the Girls and  Bentonville, Conway and Rogers are close in the Boys. The 1.5 Mile muddy course saw four course records and one Senior Boys Meet Record.  Travis Williams (Magazine) took the Senior Boys crown at 7:39 in leading his team to a 31-47-51 win over Greenwood and Mountainburg. In the Senior Girls, Greenwood won by 22-41-69 over Magazine and Mountainburg. Katy Carter (Magazine) won the race in 9:31. Magazine won the 6-team Junior Girls over Greenwood and Mountainburg by 26-41-84 while Greenwood bested Dardanelle and Mountainburg in the 5-team Junior Boys meet by 37-64-77. Brittney Bryan (Magazine) won the Junior Girls in 9:48 and Kolten Speaks (Union Christian) took the Junior Boys in 8:57. Go here for complete meet results.

Texas A&M football is famous for its 12th man but Cabot showed why the 6th man is important in cross country. Cabot (2:12 spread) and Russellville (2:05) tied at 67 in the 12-team Boys meet with Cabot  winnning the tiebreaker as the Panthers 6th runner was 16 seconds ahead of Russellville's 6th. Bryant (1:34) was 3rd at 79.  In the Senior Girls meet, host Bryant (1:09) cruised to a 54-75-85 win over Cabot (4:22) and Russellville (4:16) in the 8-team meet. In the 7-team Junior 2 Mile Meet, Russellville earned the sweep with a 28-64-65 win in the Girls over Bryant and Little Rock Christian while the Boys won by 29-56-82 over Bryant and Hot Springs Lakeside. SR Chris Marchman (Sheridan) won the Boys 5k in 16:14 with SR Brendon Tucker (Cabot) 2nd in 16:24.  SO Emily Myers was the winner of the Girls race in 20:04 over SR Kaitlin Bounds  (Russellville) in 2nd at 20:15. Mountain Home won the Girls 2500m (1.55 miles) meet by 31-42-50 over West Plains, MO and Batesville Southside while the  Junior Zizzers took the Boys meet by 23-48-59 over Southside and Mountain Home.  Shelby Lin (Mountain Home) led the Arkansas Girls in 4th at 11:10.88 (7:09/mile) and Cody Goodman (Southside) was the first Arkansas Boy at 10:01.64 (6:25/mile) in 3rd. Bentonville Boys took 2nd overall at the Stampede while Rogers Boys struggled without their lead runner.  Rogers was 7th in the 52-team Boys meet followed by Fayetteville in 8th and Rogers Heritage in 11th. Rogers Girls led the Arkansas contingent in the 39-team Girls meet at 7th, followed by Bentonville in 9th and Rogers Heritage in 12th.  Rogers Boys won the JV meet while Rogers Girls was 6th. SR Grace Heymsfield (Elkins) was 2nd overall in the Varsity Girls race with an excellent 15:45 time with FR Maggie Montoya (Rogers) close behind in 3rd at a fine 18:53. SR Austin Simpkins (Fayetteville) paced the Arkansas Boys at 10th in 16:21 with SO Will Aenchbacher (Bentonville) in 11th at 16:27. Nettleton Senior Girls spoiled Russellville's try for a home sweep as they won 35-40-64-78 over Russellville, Greers Ferry Westside and Jessieville.  The Cyclones won the Senior Boys with a perfect score over Nettleton and Greers Ferry Westside by 15-77-80 in the 5-team meet.  Nettleton Girls averaged 25:15 for the 5k course with a spread of 3:31 while Russellville Boys came home in an average of 18:10 and a nice 1:09 spread.  Russellville won the 2 mile Junior Girls meet with another perfect score by 15-68 over Pottsville in the 4-team meet while the Junior Boys won by 16-76-77 over Greers Ferry Westside and Pottsville in the 5-team meet.  Kaitlin Bounds (Russellville) won Senior Girls in a fine 20:47 whle Michael Allen took the crown for the Senior Cyclones at 17:22. Kyandra Chandler (Nettleton) won the Junior Girls race in 13:06 while David Jacobson and Elijah Knight of Russellville won took 1-2 in the Junior Boys at 12:22.11 and 12:12.35. Rogers runners took home the top place in both Boys and Girls as SR Jeremiah Fleeman an FR Maggie  Montoya led the harriers over the tough, hilly course on a warm and humid afternoon. Montoya won in 20:00 over 5k which is a Top 10 all-time meet best for Girls.  Fleeman won in 17:01 leading the Mounties to the win by 37-58-111 over host Carthage and Nixa.  The Lady Mounties placed four  in the Top 10 but could only claim 2nd as defending champ Kearney, MO won by 40-56-84 over Rogers and Rogers Heritage who did not run a full varsity. Dani David (Rogers Heritage) as the in a nice 20:49 just ahead of Jordan James (Rogers) in 20:51. In Senior Boys, Oscar Orralla (Rogers Heritage) took 5th in 17:28.  Hope Burrell (Rogers Heritage) won the Girls JV 2 mile in 12:54 and Adam Yawn (Rogers Heritage) won the JV Boys in 11:28. SR Erika Setzler (Conway) ran a fine early season 19:22 for 5k to take 4th in the field of 266. Rogers placed 6th in the 43-team Boys meet and 7th in the 36-team Girls meet. Rogers Boys averaged 17:13 with a solid spread of 1:03 while the Lady Mounties averaged 21:35 with a 2:40 spread. Harding Academy Boys were 21st averaging 18:36 (2:27 spread) and the HA Girls placed 28th with an average time of 24:19. SR Jeremiah Fleeman led Rogers at 13th in a fine 16:35 while JR Erica Owen led the Ladies at 22nd in 20:28. Other top Arkansas runners included: SOPH Jordan James (Rogers Girls, 24th, 20:32), SR Martin Resendiz (Rogers Boys, 28th, 17:11), SOPH Carly Rodriquez (Rogers Girls, 32nd, 20:51), JR Sloan Scott (HA Girls, 33rd, 20:53) and JR Ben Ashley (HA Boys, 34th, 17:16). Rogers Lady Mountie FR Maggie Montoya blasted the Eliminator Hill Course on the overcast, humid early morning in a scorching 20:56 clocking to lead all females for an impressive 20 second win. Teammate JR Erica Owen was 3rd overall and 2nd among high school runners in a very respectable 21:40.  Mountie SR Jeremiah Fleeman took 2nd overall and 1st in the high school division with a nice 17:22. Amos Gerber (Lake Hamilton HS) and Angel Crawford (Lake Hamilton JH) took overall honors among the filed of 179 at 4:33 and 6:01, respectively, in the 24th Annual Owens Road Mile. Intsead of the former slightly down hill course on old Owens Road, the new course over Old Airport Road featured rolling hills. Caroline Tran (Lake Hamilton) won the Senior Girls in 6:03, Taylor Werst (Lake Hamilton) took the Junior Boys in 5:21, Rieves Payne (North Little Rock) win the Elementary Girls Half Mile in 3:26 and Sky Jackson (Acorn) won the Elementary Boys Half Mile in a swift 2:43. Rogers Eliminator, Elementary Races, Downtown Rogers, 8/29/09

Over 70 elementary school runners toed the line starting at the Frisco Caboose and raced through historic downtown Rogers along the 1K brick streets course and took on the Mini-Eliminator Hill just before the finish. A new Meet Record and Course Record was set in the Boys K-2nd Race by Cole James, a 2nd grade student at Rogers Bellview. James raced home in 3:21.71 to smash the old record of 3:30.56 set by Riley Johnson, Rogers Reagan in 2006. Other race winners were:
 
K-2 Girls: Marisa Fontana, Providence Academy, 2nd, 4:17.44
3rd-5th Girls: Anna Randels, 3rd, Rogers Bellview, 3:09.95

World Championships produce fast 200m finals

In race where five of the finalists broke under 20 flat, former Arkansas high school star Wallace Spearmon (Fayetteville High School/Arkansas) took 3rd in a swift 19.85 clocking to earn a spot on the awards stand in Berlin at the IAAF World Championships in Athletics.  Spearmon trailed only winner Usain Bolt (Jamaica) who won in a new World Record time of 19.19 and the 19.81 of Panama's Alonso Edwards.  Veteran USA star Shawn Crawford tallied 19.89 for 4th.  For complete meet results (including photo finish pictures and complete field event data), go to www.usatf.com or link there from our Links page.
 
Spearmon races in World 200m semi-finals

Wallace Spearmon (Fayetteville HS/Arkansas) posted the second fastest time of the day in winning Heat 2 of the 200m at the IAAF World Championships.  Only Usain Bolt's (Jamaica) winning time in Heat 1 of 20.08 was faster than Spearmon's 20.14 clocking.  Spearmon gets his chance at upsetting Bolt on 8/20 in the finals. Spearmon advances to semi finals at Worlds in Berlin

Wallace Spearmon (Fayetteville HS/Arkansas) advanced at the 12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics being held in Berlin, Germany. He opened with a 20.66 time in the opening round good enough for 2nd in Heat 9. Later today he clocked a 20.44 for 2nd in Heat 4 of the quarterfinals.  Semis are set for 8/19 with finals on 8/20.
